Success is a 4-Letter Word

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

Success means different things to different people!  When I say it’s a four-letter word, one thinks of ‘crap’ or ‘damn’ or ‘shi_t’, or other negative connotations (didn’t you? :-)   Many years ago, I heard someone speak and the one thing I took home from the talk was:  Success =  F A D E   :

Focus/ Attitude/ Determination/ Enthusiasm

And while I may agree with this; it’s not clear enough!   Before we can have ‘focus, attitude, determination and enthusiasm, we must be clear ourselves.   What do we want?  Success, according to the dictionary, is a desired outcome; the results we want.   What 4-letter word comes to mind for you?  know, cash, rank, life, more, goal, hype, love, tool, much, gold, trip, fire, when, plan, fame, gift, drag, fail, lost, gain …  you add your own. Sucess is a relative term. There, another word!  But it is relative.  Like age, are you too old or too young?  Like money, do you have enough or not enough?  Is that a big salary, or not?  Success?  Each person’s success will be different from the next person’s success.  It is very important to define your own.  This will help in everything, including your Career Search or your Career Management.   The more you know about yourself, the more confident you will be.  And confidence comes through!
